A Big Hurdle Overcome!
February 1, 2008
As of this afternoon, I am no longer a landlord! Wow, its kind of hard to absorb all at once after so many months of ups and downs. Here is what I learned over the last three years:
1) To sand, stain, and gloss hardwood floors (two sets of them!)
2) To fix swampcoolers, and how to not fix them.
3) The hard reality of why I should have evicted my tenant sooner.
4) How to bring lawns back from the dead.
5) How to install trim, lights, paint, sand, scrape, thermostats, carpet, linoleum, toilets, blinds, etc. etc.
6) How to drop a dishwasher down a flight of stairs.
7) How to clean up after tenants left dogs alone for unknown days in an apartment, how to sell all their possessions after they skip town and don’t pay rent, lots of cleaning!
8. How to enjoy good tenants, and make some good friends!
9) To learn that I could do all these things, on my own, with my own abilities. I gained a lot of confidence in three years. I’m proud of myself!
I hope you all have a good weekend, stay safe, and get out and enjoy the winter! Maybe that groundhog won’t see his shadow on Saturday!
I really hope that dishwasher was on the way out and not on the way in! Did it at least make a satisfying noise? I must have been watching too much Myth Busters or something, because suddenly my dream job is one where I get to blow stuff up. Lot of noise and destruction seems like it would be deeply satisfying somehow. Or maybe it’s just a reaction to having a quiet, chained-to-my-desk kind of job, who knows.
Oh, and any tips on carpet cleaning of pets would be appreciated. One of the cats has GI distress right now. I’ll say no more about that!
YAY! Now if the house would sell….
#9 is the best! You should be proud of yourself.
Wow, let’s see, I think I could do #6…
You, as many before me have recognized, TOTALLY ROCK!
Yay, Anne! Yay! I’m very happy for you!
I am sure that there are lots of responsible things you should do now, but don’t forget to buy yourself something pretty.
Maybe something like this?
